Ripe and elegant Pinot Noir - characteristically softly juicy fruit, richer and fruitier than European and Kiwi examples, and great value compared with many other Pinots. Chile really does deliver great quality for price.
Tasting Note : Dark ruby colour. Red cherries, strawberries and hints of vanilla are evident on the nose. The wine is full on the palate, with deep cherry and cranberry fruit, hints of dark chocolate and smokey notes on the finish.
Food Pairing : Roast lamb, roast pork, tapas, falafels, Moroccan stews.
More info : Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape to grow. Its thin skins make it susceptible to rot, and its tendency to mutate makes it a nightmare to work with! However, at its best it produces some of the most sublime wines in the world. Pinot Noir does best in cooler climates, so the del Pedregals grow their Pinot Noir in the cool Casablanca Valley where many white varieties are planted. The morning mists and breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean have a cooling effect on the grapes, allowing wines of elegance and freshness to be produced. This is unmistakably a 'warm climate' Pinot, darker and riper than its European counterparts, but it has all the soft strawberry and cherry fruit typical of this grape variety.
Del Pedregal Winery : Established in 1825, and still family-owned, the latest generation are continuing to focus on vineyard acquisition and investment in the winery. Recent developments mean that the winery can now bottle 5,000 bottles per hour, and the sophisticated new filtration system guarantees consistency of quality.
The family are committed to sustainable viticulture and production, and have recently invested thousands in a waste liquid disposal system which is environmentally friendly.
