Origen Carmènere Reserva, Loncomilla Valley

Country : Chile

Grape Variety : Carmènere

Chile's signature grape, Carmènere, produces a rich, deeply-coloured, red which is intensely concentrated and silky-textured. A real star from the del Pedregal winery. For those who like their reds big and bold.

Tasting Note : Very dark colour, with black fruits on the nose. On the palate the wine is smooth and rounded, with blackcurrant and cherry fruit, hints of black pepper and toasty, oaky notes on the finish.

Food Pairing : The perfect partner to red meats e.g. burgers, steaks, game casserole, boeuf bourguignon. Or try with a spicy veggie chilli.

More info : Carmenère is Chile's USP, but its origins are in Bordeaux just like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Carmenère's similarity to Merlot has resulted in some confusion in the vineyards of Chile, as the two vines have sometimes been confused with each other. However, these problems have largely been resolved now, and Carmènere is emerging as a popular grape variety in its own right. Del Pedregal carefully match their vine plantings to the individual micro-climates, aspects and subsoils of their vineyard holdings,  The Carmenere is planted in the warmer sub-region of Melozal, where warm spring days help the early-budding varieties and cool winds in the evening help lengthen the ripening process.

Del Pedregal Winery : Established in 1825, and still family-owned, the latest generation are continuing to focus on vineyard acquisition and investment in the winery. Recent developments mean that the winery can now bottle 5,000 bottles per hour, and the sophisticated new filtration system guarantees consistency of quality.

The family are committed to sustainable viticulture and production, and have recently invested thousands in a waste liquid disposal system which is environmentally friendly.
