Finca el Encinal Roble, Ribera del Duero, Case of 6 bottles

Country : Spain

Grape Variety : Tempranillo (Tinto Fino)

Case of 6 bottles

A vibrant, concentrated red, full of ripe juicy red and black fruits with notes of spice, from the sought-after Ribera del Duero. The label is designed by winemaker, Carlos Estecha. This is a great example of wine from this area, at a comparatively accessible price point.

Tasting Note : Concentrated scents of black cherry on the nose. The wine is ripe and juicy on the palate, with intense cherry fruit, hints of vanilla and a spicy finish.

Food Pairing : Tomato-based casseroles; grilled red meats; barbecued pork.

More info : Situated in North Central Spain, Ribera del Duero is a bleak-looking landscape which produces some absolutely stunning wines. The main grape variety grown here is the Tinto Fino, known as Tempranillo elsewhere. In the more arid climate and extreme temperatures of this elevated plateau, the Tempranillo produces wines of more intensity, structure and dark colour than in the milder climes of Rioja.

Winery : Finca el Encinal was planted in the year 2000 by the Eguizabal family, owners of Bodegas Franco-Espanolas in Rioja. They built a modern wine-making facility and have now extended their plantings to 62 hectares, where they produce wines of great intensity and finesse. Winemaker Carlos Estecha splits his time between Ribera del Duero and Rioja to oversee the winemaking in both wineries. The wineries are dotted with Carlos's artwork (he is an artist as well as oenologist), and one of his paintings features on the label of the Finca el Encinal Roble.
