Petit Clos Sauvignon, Marlborough, New Zealand

Country : New Zealand

Grape Variety : Sauvignon Blanc

An elegant, well balanced Sauvignon from the Bourgeois family of Sancerre fame. The wine shows a delicate balance between French refinement and Kiwi exuberance, with mouthwateringly fruity citrus and exotic character. Organic.

Tasting Note : Fresh lime and grapefruit notes on the nose lead on to a concentrated and juicy palate, with flavours of exotic fruits underpinned by a fine mineral seam.

Food Pairing : Without food with a bowl of roasted, salted nuts; paella; bouillabaisse; grilled salmon. To celebrate Friday!

More info : Petit Clos is produced from the younger vines on the Clos Henri estate in Marlborough. The vines are planted on three different soil types – Greywacke river stone, Broadbridge and River clays, each of which brings a different mineral element to the wine. The vines are densely planted in the traditional French way, resulting in highly concentrated grapes. Clos Henri has been fully certified organic since 2013, using only natural practices from the vineyard through to the winery. Dry farming is practised to reduce, or where possible eliminate, irrigation.

Winery : Ten generations of the Bourgeois family have farmed vines and produced wine at their estate in Chavignol. Situated right in the heart of the region and enjoying some of the best soils, the estate has grown from its original two hectares to 65 today, thanks to the quality and success of the wines and the enterprising nature of the family. In the year 2000 the Bourgeois family took the bold step of planting in New Zealand's up-and-coming Marlborough area in the foothills of the Wairau Valley. Here they produce wines of elegance and restraint which are true to their French heritage, while expressing the unique, exuberant character of New Zealand Sauvignon.
