Those in the know (like us!) realise you can get great bang for your buck if you buy your Champagne from a small producer. We love the Brut Tradition from family-owned Champagne Gardet – stunningly fresh and zesty, with a complexity way above its price point. But for elegance and finesse English sparkling wine is way ahead of the rest of the pack. Super-fine mousse, crisp and zippy, this 2010 Vintage is a fantastic wine from the award-winning Digby winery. Whilst South Africa wouldn’t be most people’s first port of call when looking for fizz, this fabulous example will make you think again. Simonsig Estate were the first to produce sparkling wine in South Africa, and we think their wine is still head and shoulders above the rest. This bottle-fermented classic is ripe yet elegant, with rich, complex flavours and a bright, fresh finish.
