Country : Chile
Grape Variety : Gewürztraminer
Case of 6 bottles
Gewürztraminer from Chile is quite a rare beast, but here is a great example offering all of the aromatics, floral tones and exotic style you would expect from this unique grape variety.
Tasting Note : Perfumed, rose petal scents on the nose. On the palate the wine is rich yet elegant, with hints of lychee, orange blossom, citrus fruits and spice. The texture is rounded yet fresh.
Food Pairing : Thai curries, salads with fruit, creamy prawn cocktail, gingery stir fries.
More info : ‘Gewurz’ in German literally means ‘spice’, and this grape variety certainly delivers that. Its unique flavour profile makes it unmistakeable in blind tastings, and suitable for matching with dishes that would not pair well with most wines. Most commonly found in Alsace and Southern Germany, this grape performs surprisingly well in Chile’s Loncomilla Valley, where it forms part of the del Pedregal vineyard holding. This wine is unoaked and cool fermented to retain it s aromatic flavours, and its small amount of residual sugar enhances its exotically fruity style.
Del Pedregal Winery : Established in 1825, and still family-owned, the latest generation are continuing to focus on vineyard acquisition and investment in the winery. Recent developments mean that the winery can now bottle 5,000 bottles per hour, and the sophisticated new filtration system guarantees consistency of quality.
The family are committed to sustainable viticulture and production, and have recently invested thousands in a waste liquid disposal system which is environmentally friendly.
