More info : Pouilly Fuissé is a small area in the Maconnais in Southern Burgundy. The slightly warmer climate here means that the wines tend to be riper and softer than their counterparts in the Cote d’Or. Wines from Pouilly Fuissé and other villages in the Macon area used to be considered great value, less expensive alternatives to other Burgundian whites. Nowadays, however, small production and high demand have caused prices to sky-rocket here too, although they are still considerably cheaper than the likes of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The Pouilly Fuissé la Frérie comes from south-facing slopes near the village of Solutré, from vineyards owned by the Auvigue family.
Winery : Like many Burgundy houses, the Auvigue family have been working their vineyards for generations. Current owners, Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue, ensure that family traditions are followed and are careful to vilnify grapes from each of their plots separately, as each has a slightly different sub-soil and micro-climate. French oak barrels are used in the maturation of the wines, but these are used judiciously so as not to overpower the fragrant, fruit-driven flavours of the wine. The wine is aged for several months on its lees, with regular stirring, to extract flavour, character and texture.
