More info : We just can’t seem to get enough of Marlborough Sauvignon in the UK, and sales are continuing to rise. This cool climate region in the North of New Zealand’s South Island benefits from sea breezes and stony soils which are ideal for producing classic Sauvignon Blanc. New vineyard areas are constantly being developed here, and the latest to yield fantastic fruit is the Ward Valley, right in the Southernmost, coolest part of the region. This delicious white is produced from grapes grown in three individual vineyard blocks, each of which brings a different nuance to the wine. In a crowded market you have to stand out, and Ward Valley does just that.
Winery : This small, 20 hectare estate was initially planted in 2008 by fourth generation South Islander, Freddie Davison. He selected this area for development because of its cool climate, high altitude, dry air temperature and deep, clay soils. This classic combination of features results in unusual finesse and complexity in the wines, and gives them a real individual stamp. Along with viticulturist James Leary and consultant winemaker, David Clouston, Freddie is continuing to invest in the area to ensure that the most modern techniques result in the healthiest, best quality grapes and the freshest, most elegant wines.
