A very rich and full-bodied single-vineyard red. Produced from grapes which are dried before fermentation, this is a powerful, intense wine, packed with black fruit flavours, dried fruits and spice. A real blockbuster!
Tasting Note : Intense aromas of dried fruits and plums lead on to a hugely velvety, textured palate. Black fruits, prunes, plums and cherries are wrapped in smokey notes of spice, mocha and black pepper. The finish goes on and on (and on...).
Food Pairing : Almost too hot to handle! Keep for game casseroles, very mature cheeses, maybe roast beef or lamb. Or just to savour after a bad day at the office.
More info : This wine from the single vineyard, Capitel de Roari, is produced from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes which have been dried for 5 months in the winery's loft. This drying process concentrates the flavours (and alcohol) in the wine, giving a hugely bold mouthful. Ageing in oak barrel brings extra nuances of spice and complexity. This wine may not be for the faint-hearted, but is actually a bit more elegant and balanced than some Amarones. This is a fantastic red, well worth the money.
Winery : The Righetti family have been producing wine since Angelo Righetti established the estate in 1909. Current winemaker, Gian Maria Righetti, is the fourth generation to run the estate, and has focussed on developing a range with international appeal, including the introduction of single vineyard wines. Having said this, the family are fiercely proud of their heritage, and still preserve their long-established viticultural practices. A prefect combination of innovation with tradition.
