Producer            Many Rhône producers have enjoyed a renaissance in the last decade, and none more so than Delas. The company has history (back to 1836) and land (twelve prime hectares, including La Landonne and Les Bessards). Since 1997, in the form of Jacques Grange, it has also had a winemaker capable of realising all that potential. Under his influence a more modern ‘boutique’ approach has been taken, and the wines now combine clarity of flavour with hedonistic appeal – surely the ultimate goal for a Rhône producer.

Vineyard             The fruit for Saint-Esprit comes from a small valley in the northern Ardèche, to the west of the river Rhône. The vineyards are south-facing granite, and hence particularly well suited to Syrah, as well as naturally low-yielding.

Winery                The grapes were destemmed and then fermented for fifteen days in closed vats, with daily pumping over; temperature was limited to 2830ºC. Malolactic took place durnig eight months’ ageing in tank.

Taste                   With Syrah to the fore, this is full of berry fruit, violet, liquorice, and spices. It has a generous, rounded palate and a long, elegant finish.
