Eikendal, Sauvignon Blanc, Stellenbosch

Variety: Sauvignon Blanc

Vintage: 2014

Region: Stellenbosch, South Africa

Vineyards and Viticulture:

Grapes are sourced from 3 sites: 2 in the Elgin Valley and 1 site in Lutzville. The east-facing vineyards are situated on slopes between 150-650 meters above sea level. Vines are trained using VSP system, planted on the unique ‘Koffieklip’, iron-rich soil. Vines average 15 years and drip irrigation is used in the vineyards.   Grapes are harvested by hand in the cool of the night.

All blocks were vinified separately. Grapes are crushed with approximately 4 hours skin contact. Fermented in stainless steel tanks for 2-3 months at around 15°C. Wines are aged on lees in 80% stainless steel, 10% 2nd and 3rd fill barrels and 10% egg shaped tanks. The individual blocks are then filtered, blended and bottled.

Tasting Notes:

Gooseberry and ripe fig with notes of fresh asparagus. Crisp minerality from the chalky soils layered with white flowers and perfume.

Serving Suggestion:

Enjoy with smoked trout or goat’s cheese
