Vineyard and Viticulture:
Grapes come from North facing vineyards at an altitude of 220m. The 17 year old vines are trained using a Bilateral Cordon method producing yields of 45hl/ha. The soils are predominantly granite/ schist with a layer of clay & loam soil. Integrated pest control and a sustainable viticultural approach is used. Monte Velho means ‘old mountain’ in Portuguese. This wine is one of the most recognized premium wines in Portugal
Grapes are hand harvested, de-stemmed & crushed. The must was chilled and cold settled before being pressed using a membrane press. Fermentation lasted for 15 days at 14°C in stainless steel tank. The wine was matured in tank for 2 months before being fines, filtered and bottled. It was then further matured in bottle for 2 months prior to release.
Fresh, fruity aroma with notes of oak, white peach and tangerine. Intense, complex palate with body and richness. Long, flavoursome finish.
Grilled seafood, medium mature cheeses & vegetable dishes.
