'Hills View' Shiraz, Simon Hackett, McLaren Vale Case of 6 bottles

Case of 6 bottles

A wonderful, gutsy, spicy Shiraz. This full, ripe red is packed with luscious black fruit flavours, black pepper and spice, with very subtle hints of vanilla.

Tasting Note : On the nose blackcurrant and rich plum fruit burst out of the glass. The palate is very well balanced, with luscious dark fruits, pepper, spice and toastiness.

Food Pairing : Char-grilled meats; beef stews; veggie chilli; roast game.

More info : This fabulous red is made from low-yielding fruit grown in two distinct vineyard areas in Barossa Valley. A proportion of the juice was fermented in American oak, with the whole lot then aged in oak for a further 10 months, all under the watchful eye of Simon Hackett. The resulting wine reflects the intensity of the fruit, the minerality of the soil and the personality of Simon himself. There is nothing run-of-the-mill about this wonderful red.

Winery : Simon Hackett grew up in the Barossa Valley, part of a family steeped in winemaking tradition. Having decided on a winemaking career for himself, Simon learnt his trade under veteran winemaker, Peter Lehmann, before eventually branching out and making his own wines. His small 8-hectare estate comprises some very old, dry-grown vines, which give low yields of grapes high in mineral content and flavour. Simon also has long-standing contracts with growers in Barossa and McLaren Vale, but deliberately keeps production low so he can individually hand-craft each of his products. The wines are fermented in open fermenters in the traditional way, and both French and American oak barrels are used for ageing.
