Quinta de Quercus, Tempranillo, DO Ucles

Variety: 100% Tempranillo

Vintage: 2012

Region: Uclés, Northern Castile, Spain

Vineyard and Viticulture:

Produced from the best parcels of the Quinta de Quercus estate: 24,3 HA “Camino Las Morras” and 20,9 HA “Viña Ocaña”. Both are hillside plantings of around 30-year-old Tempranillo vines, studded with centenary oak trees and farmed sustainably to achieve perfectly balanced vines. Yields are typically around 2 kg per vine.

Grapes hand-harvested, de-stalked and each parcel is vinified separately in small, stainless steel tanks. Maceration times are decided upon by tasting, tank by tank, with manual pumping-overs, but may last between 21-30 days. 100% of the wine is aged in 300L French and 225L American oak barrels (25%  new) for 12 months.

Tasting Notes:

Intense nose combining aromas of blackberries, rosemary and hints of spicy clove. Full-bodied and concentrated. Juicy fruit and muscular tannins are balanced with fine oak complexity and vibrant acidity.

Serving Suggestion:

This complex wine is great with bbq, rich red meat or game dishes or hard cheese. It is drinking well, but will keep for at least a further ten years.
