An elegant classic from France's Loire Valley, vibrant, dry and herbaceous, with deliciously concentrated gooseberry fruit. Fantastically long finish. From the family-owned Henri Bourgeois estate.
Tasting Note : Fresh, concentrated gooseberry and citrus fruits on the nose. The palate is full bodied, dry and fresh, with citrus fruits, herbal tones and clean minerality.
Food Pairing : Crayfish; lobster; grilled white fish; goat's cheese with crusty bread. Great for dinner parties.
More info : Sancerre, in the Central Vineyards of the Loire Valley, is part of the area known as the 'Garden of France' due to its fertility and mild climate. The only white grape variety permitted in Sancerre is Sauvignon, and this grape thrives in the chalk soils and rolling hillsides of the area. This wine from Henri Bourgeois is classic Sancerre – vinified in stainless steel without use of oak, the wine is amazingly elegant and concentrated. A real crowd-pleaser, and a class apart.
Winery : Ten generations of the Bourgeois family have farmed the vines and produced wine at their estate in Chavignol. Situated right in the heart of the region and enjoying some of the best soils, the estate has grown from its original two hectares to 65 today, thanks to the quality and success of the wines and the enterprising nature of the family. Each vineyard plot is vinified separately to reflect the individual character of its soil, resulting in wines which express their own unique terroir. In the year 2000 the Bourgeois family took the bold step of planting in New Zealand's up-and-coming Marlborough area in the foothills of the Wairau Valley. Here they produce wines of elegance and restraint which are true to their French heritage, while expressing the unique, exuberant character of New Zealand Sauvignon.
