Vina Morande, Gran Reserva, Pinot Noir, Casablanca Valley

Variety: 100% Pinot Noir

Vintage: 2014

Region: Casablanca Valley, Chile

Vineyard and Viticulture:

The grapes come from the El Ensueño vineyard, one of the oldest Morandé vineyards (planted in 1997) located in the cold western sector of the  Casablanca Valley. The vineyard is managed organically, resulting in smaller grapes with thicker skins and consequently more expressive colours, aromas and flavours, in addition to a low yeild of 56 hl/ha.

Hand harvested to boxes of ten kilos. Once in the bodega, the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and premacerated for 5 days at 8°C. Fermentation lasts for 8-10 days in open top stainless steel tanks and part in open French Oak tanks at 23-25°C with gravitational “remontage” without the intervention of pumps to give the grapes the most delicate treatment possible. The wine is post macerated for a further 15 days at 20°C. it is then matured in 25% new French oak 2000l & 4000l barrels for 12 months with lees contact for 10 months followed by malolactic fermentation. It is matured in bottle for 1 year prior to release.

Tasting Notes:

Intense, deep ruby-red in colour with aromas of forest fruits, blackberries & fresh herbs. Red fruits fill the palate followed by notes of vanilla, cloves & chocolate. Elegant and distinguished, with good body and acidity.
