Description
Country : South Africa
Grape Variety : Sauvignon Blanc
Lean, clean and mineral, this vibrant white has the dry, stoney, citrus, vivaciously fresh flavours of cool climate Sauvignon. Class in a glass.
Tasting Note : Light, fresh, lemony fruit comes through on the nose. On the palate the wine is bone dry, with a fine mineral seam throughout. The flavours are citrus and gooseberry, delicately balanced, with subtlety and finesse.
Food Pairing : Without food so you can savour the purity of the fruit. Or with oysters; mussels; goat’s cheese and crusty bread; pan-fried lemon sole.
More info : Kevin Grant (winemaker) regards Sauvignon as the perfect vehicle to express the Table Mountain sandstone and Cape Granite soils in which it is grown. The wine is unwooded, and produced with minimum intervention to reflect its terroir. A passionate advocate of his lovingly-produced products, Kevin describes a mouthful of this wine as resembling sucking a stone from a riverbed – not something you do every day! Sauvignon comes in many guises, and this is definitely one of our favourites.
Winery : Co-owner, viticulturist and winemaker, Kevin Grant, states that ‘our mission is to get our dirt into the bottle with minimum intervention’. Kevin and wife Hanli bought this 47-hectare estate in 2004. They were attracted by the unique terroir of the area, the lofty altitude of the vineyards and their location in the Southernmost tip of the Cape, allowing the cultivation of grape varieties which thrive in a cooler climate. Grape varieties are matched to the individual soil types, with most of the vineyards on cool, south-facing slopes. For Kevin it’s all about the terroir, and this comes through in these unique, mineral, elegantly balanced wines.
