Description
Founded in 1905, Domaine des Tilleuls is a family owned and operated winery dating back five generations. Today, Daniel, Evelyne, and their children Jérôme and Noémie Houssin, perpetuate this history and tradition through their shared passion for wine. Their vineyards are located on the western side of the Loire Valley, near the Atlantic Ocean, where cool maritime influences and a long growing season provide the optimal conditions to gently ripen their grapes. The schist-based soils allow excellent drainage and contribute a perceived minerality to their wines.
“Though Cabernet Franc comes from the Bordeaux region, it is the Loire where it has taken on an identity of its own. Most of its vines are planted around the central areas of the valley such as Chinon, Saumur and Bourgueil, but producers such as the Houssin family have captured it well on their schist soils to the east of Nantes. No oak was used enabling this delicious variety to shine through. ”
Though this is Muscadet country, we really enjoy their varietal wines as they have character, freshness and good balance. Their 2018 Cabernet Franc delivers pure varietal notes with plums, red cherries, a touch of spice and sandalwood. An appealing plump palate leads to a fresh, crisp finish. Perfect slightly chilled.
