Description
This has been described as a well-priced Muscadet that would make a refreshing apéritif, with creamy pasta and as an accompaniment to seafood, and other fish. Closed with a screwcap making this wine a particularly good traveller, and ideal to take on a walk for a picnic. The grape is Melon de Bourgogne, a fresh mineral grape.
With fresh apple and a little spice, some pear notes and a mineral undertone, this is a great example of Muscadet.
One of the more unique backgrounds, the Lieubeau family came to be by fate. In 1816, Joseph Grégoire Lieubeau, had been left on the steps of the local hospital in Nantes. Not knowing his real name, those who found him blessed him with a fortunate name, meaning “beautiful place”. He was raised by a local family who happened to be grape growers, and years later he eventually established his own domaine. Today, it is run by his descendants Pierre, Chantal and their children François, Vincent and Marie. They produce some of the most polished wines in the western Loire, with a focus on Muscadet, their region’s flagship wine. Their Joseph Grégoire Lieubeau range is a tribute to their family’s founding father. The 2019 Muscadet offers up a fresh, easy palate of pear, gunflint and a tinge of spice.
