Tasting Note : Floral, peachy fruit on the nose follows through onto the palate. The wine has rounded mouthfeel, rich stone fruit and honeysuckle notes and a crisp finish.

More info : Known as Albarino in Spain, the Alvarinho grape is widely grown in the Minho region of Northern Portugal, where it produces characterful wines with a great balance between peachy ripeness and fresh acidity. Whilst an important component in many Vinhos Verdes, Alvarinho was one of the first grape varieties in Portugal to be varietally-labelled. Unusually, Casa de Vila Nova reserve all of their Alvarinho for producing and bottling under its own name, and do not use it as a component in their Vinho Verde. Portugal is not widely associated with white wines, but this clean, modern, characterful example is a great glass of wine by any standards.
Winery : This wine is produced by Casa de Vila Nova on the Eastern edge of the Vinho Verde region. The estate has been owned by the aristocratic Lencastre family since the 12th century, but it was only in the 1970s that vines were first planted here. Since then, the current generation have extended the area under vine to 42 hectares, have extensively replanted the existing vineyards and have introduced their own bottling and winemaking facilities. Their products bring a modern take to traditional Portuguese grape varieties.
