Description
Country : Italy
Grape Variety : Primitivo
You will love this ripe, velvety red from Central Italy, packed with juicy cherry and plum fruit. Charmingly rustic and quite structured, with a tangy, fruity finish. Not at all run of the mill!
Tasting Note : Ripe cherry fruit on the nose leads on to a warm, fruity palate. Lively red cherry and plum flavours are wrapped in fine-grained tannins and the finish is long and fruit-filled.
Food Pairing : Tomato-based pasta dishes; char-grilled pork; cold meats; roasted Mediterranean veg.
More info : The Primitivo grape is known for producing juicy, gutsy reds in the Southern Italian area of Puglia. Its other claim to fame is that it is the same grape as Zinfandel in California, where it produces some great blockbusters. This Primitivo is grown in the Terre di Chieti area of Abruzzo in Central Italy. The favourable climatic conditions and soil result in a wine of balance with fresh but full fruit and good structure. If you fancy trying something a bit different and quite unique in style, you won’t regret giving this a go.
Winery : Lunaria is a co-operative winery dedicated to producing wine in the most sustainable way, without the use of chemical herbicides or pesticides and respecting the land. Not only are the wines organic, but the growers practise biodynamic viticulture to maximise quality whilst protecting the terroir. The vineyards are based around the town of Orsogna in the central Abruzzo area of Italy, where long, hot summer days and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen well while retaining their balance and acidity. As part of their commitment to deliver benefits to the local community, Lunaria have reintroduced the traditional string closure, ‘the binding’, produced by local social co-operative the Friendship Farm.
