South African Wine Industry struggling due to Covid bans

If the situation in South Africa does not slacken very, very soon there will be a wholesale and probably unrecoverable disintegration of the local wine industry.

With the SA Government banning all exports, for over 5 weeks, and the sale of alcohol domestically, many wine producers are beginning to see the affect of Covid in more ways than one.

We heard from Denzel Swarts of Simonsig this week in our tasting, how happy the workers and the family running the winery in Stellenbosch were to see all our tasters enjoying their wines.

Kevin and Hanli Grant at Ataraxia told Penny this week “the SA industry is very grateful for the International support they are receiving.”

We are planning more SA tastings in the coming weeks.
