Italian Tasting Selection: mixed case of 6 bottles

This case contains some delights from Italy: one bottle of each of the following wines:

 

Ugovezzoli Franciacorta DOCG Brut NV  Franciacorta is the Italian equivalent of Champagne, made by the same traditional method and in this case using Chardonnay and Pinot Nero (Noir) grapes in the Lombardy region.

This wine is made by an family company which has been established for several centuries. There are only 30,000 bottles produced each year using biodynamic methods.

It is a fresh, crisp, dry sparkling wine with a light golden straw colour and fine bubbles.

Aromas and flavours of freshly baked bread, crumpets and nuts make this a delicious and refreshing wine.

Vegetarian/Vegan : Yes/Yes

Alcohol : 12.0% abv

Il Palazzo Vermentino    Il Palazzo wines are made in 100 acres of beautiful vineyards in Arezzo in Tuscany. Two generations of the Banelli family work to produce a range of delicious traditional Tuscan wines.

The Vermentino is made from grapes of the same name producing a pale yellow-green wine with a delicate freshness.

It has aromas and flavours of fresh citrus and fresh herbs with a refreshing mineral finish.

Alcohol : 13.0% abv

Il Palazzo Chianti Riserva DOCG      Made by the same family as the previous wine in Arezzo, Chianti is without doubt Tuscany’s most famous wine.

This Riserva is made mainly with Sangiovese grapes to produce a deep reddish-purply colour.

Aromas of red and black fruits are followed by flavours of forest fruits and liquorice.

Alcohol : 14.5% abv

Il Palazzo Moro Rosso IGT       Another stunning wine from Il Palazzo this time more full-bodied and full-flavoured.

Moro Rosso is a dry red blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah grapes, all combining to produce a flavour filled wine.

It is a deep ruby-purplish colour with spicy black fruit aromas and liquorice, prune and black pepper flavours.

This wine is ideal for either drinking now or keeping for up to 10 years.

Alcohol : 14.0% abv

Il Palazzo Maspino IGT The final wine from Il Palazzo, Maspino is 100% Syrah, somewhat unusual for Tuscany but producing a delicious robust red wine.

A deep purple-red colour with rich black fruit, plum and pepper aromas.

Complex, full flavours ranging from graphite to dried meat with huge amounts of black fruit and pepper.

This wine is ideal for either drinking now or keeping for up to 10 years.

Alcohol : 13.5% abv

Francesco Candido Aleatico di Puglia           Made in Puglia in the far south of Italy, this dessert wine is produced using 100% Aleatico grapes, similar in style to the better-known Muscat.

The wine is a deep cherry-red cloud with fragrant floral grapey aromas.

Flavours are reminiscent of rich, sweet, dried raisins and figs.
