Organic and biodynamic, this is a full-bodied, dry white from the Pecorino grape. Rich, with nutty flavours and a crisp finish – really delicious and something a bit different.

Tasting Note : Blossom, white fruits and hints of herbaceousness on the nose. The palate is full and dry, with mineral notes and a long, fresh finish.

Food Pairing : Hard cheeses; mussels; char-grilled fish; tomato salad.

More info : The Pecorino grape, not to be confused with the cheese of the same name, is planted mainly in Italy's central Abruzzo and Marche regions. This indigenous grape is becoming hot property as winemakers are looking to produce wines that are authentic, and offer different flavour profiles from the better-known international grape varieties. This wine is produced from low-yielding vines; the grapes are gently crushed and fermented with natural yeasts at low temperatures in stainless steel. The wine is bottled straight from tank, with no oak ageing.

Winery : Lunaria is a co-operative winery dedicated to producing wine in the most sustainable way, without the use of chemical herbicides or pesticides and respecting the land. Not only are the wines organic, but the growers practise biodynamic viticulture to maximise quality whilst protecting the terroir. The vineyards are based around the town of Orsogna in the central Abruzzo area of Italy, where long, hot summer days and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen well while retaining their balance and acidity. As part of their commitment to deliver benefits to the local community, Lunaria have reintroduced the traditional string closure, 'the binding', produced by local social co-operative the Friendship Farm.
