Staying in local accommodation, we will be based in Logroño, south of Bilbao which is the capital city of the region, on the pilgrimage routeto Santiago de Compostela. Visit Bodegas Franco Espanoles, taste the wines that have graced the tables of Kings and Queens, tour this historic winery, have a delicious lunch and wine tasting, and meet the wine maker behind this label.
Take in some of this region’s incredible history visit the Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda with it’s twin baroque towers, elaborate facade and an image attributed to Michelangelo. The Cubo del Revellín fort connects to remnants of the old city wall. Stroll through leafy Ebro Park and admire views of the River Ebro, its arched Stone Bridge and its 19th-century Iron Bridge.
Other gastronomic delights await along the Calle Laurel, affectionately known as the Elephant’s Walk, in the centre of Logroño, where you can visit over 150 tapas bars for a true authentic taste of Spain.
Visit delightful hilltop towns and explore the backstreets with wonderful views over the countryside: the bread basket of Spain.
