José María García was born in La Horra in 1936, into a family of winegrowers. Married in 1961 to Milagros Figuero, also from La Horra and from a family of winegrowers. They have three children: Carlos, Henar and Antonio, married to Esther, J. Felipe and Pilar. The whole family is involved in the vineyards and the winery.
From an early age, at the age of 12, José María was already planting vines and taking care of the vineyard with care as his grandparents taught him, from whom he inherited good work and patience.
The harvested grapes were sold since 1968 to the best wineries in the region, mythical wineries, and at the end of the last century the creation of the winery began to take shape to make their own wines. “We want our winery and the wines that come out of it to be a reflection of the experience of generations, of work and tenacity,” said José María García.
Since 2001, Viñedos y Bodegas García Figuero has been an outstanding reality. It makes wine with grapes from more than eighty hectares, of which a third are old vines older than sixty years.
Tinto Figuero, Ribera del Duero, is recognized for its quality in Spain and in more than 25 countries where it can be tasted.
