Founders José Maria García and his wife Milagros Figuero come from a proud heritage of vine growers, and farm over 110 acres with the skills handed down from their ancestors. The vines that produce the prestigious Tinto Figuero wines are up to 60 years in age, and the family is unwavering in their mastery of the region’s most noble variety: Tempranillo. Tinto Figuero use French and American oak barrels which are toasted by renowned master coopers and are essential to the unmistakable bouquet of the wines. The wines are deep in colour with flavours ranging from ripe red fruits to intense dark chocolate and vanilla.
The clone of Tempranillo and Viña Vieja. The Tempranillo clone of the García Figuero family vines comes from pre-phylloxera strains thanks to the French religious who arrived at La Horra in 1908. These devoted their efforts between 1912 and 1920, after the terrible plague of phylloxera, to replant the vineyard in the La Horra with the best strains, those already perfectly adapted to the rigorous climate of the area.
In the following years, the Garcia Family and the Figuero Family continued to plant vineyards with the same system. Later, José María was selecting the plots that gave the best grape and, fruit of that work throughout a lifetime, today we enjoy an exclusive selection of 21 plots of old vines with more than sixty years.
